I know a guy with a ponytail that will tell you the opposite.  His name
is Bill Davis :-).  One problem with such generalizations is that they
are based on a furtunate or unfortunate experience with one or two cameras.
The only safe generalization is to say that "for most practical purposes 
these and other cameras are equivalent in terms of optical quality."
