Put a bit of baking soda on a moist Q-Tip and work the contact carefully.
You should get a reaction that will dissolve the green corrosion. I have
also used a very fine sandpaper to get the worst of it off before using the
soda."
In my limited experience baking soda works with corosion from acidic
electrolyes. Remember that most small batteries use alkaline electrolytes..
Perhaps a bit of vinegar on that cotton swab will work better. (Actually a
professional camera repairman told me he uses (and I have seen on his bench)
Kodak glacial acetic acid, but I wouldn't want to go out and buy some just for
this. We all are likely to have some vinegar in the house already.) I
managed to salvage a Vivitar AP-1 battery holder by soaking it vinegar in a
small glass.
