P3D Old Format film comment
>>You would think that a mega-corporation like Kodak with thousands of
employees could put a few dozen to work producing 127,828,620,116 and
maybe other formats of film. Even if they produced small runs, of say a
thousand rolls and froze them. Who else but Kodak ...
This will never happen. There are no cameras available that handle 828,
620, 116...etc. BTW: You forgot any of a dozen other sizes no longer made.
This makes long term prospects for increasing sales NIL. Therefore, this
will not happen by Kodak. Think about it. Why ramp up for production of
film stock, slitters/cutters, paper backing, plastic take-up spools,
packaging, advertising, etc., for a product that will have less and less
sales over the years? I would not design a process to make a product that
sell less and less every year. I wish Eastman was more flexible but they
seem to care less and less about those things that made Kodak what it used
to be. George must be spinning in his grave.
Does anyone believe that manufacturers would make new cameras for this
limited amount of film, assuming Eastman did produce some? I know for a
fact that Kodak has no interest in producing custom products like film.
People have tried to get Kodak to make Matrix film, and they are not
interested. People I know who have tried, can meet every argument Eastman
throws at them. They were able to pay in advance, meet minimum lot size
orders, and they were willing to take the film stock and cut/package it. No
luck, Kodak declined. BTW: Agfa, Illford and Fuji also declined to offer
their film production services as well.
