It requires a pretty heavy mechanical load to accomplish (up to 60 cameras
electronically interlocked and heavy-duty optical printing later), so I
don't think you are going to see much experimenting with in on the
amateur/semi-pro level. A lot of the ones I've seen professionally, though,
look "not quite right" because they have forgotten one of the basic rules
of camera movement in animation--the camera should never start to move or
stop moving at full speed. It always should take a few frames to get up to
speed and a few frames to slow down before stopping. In most of the "dolly
shots" the camera appears to take off at full speed with a jerk, and then
stop like it has slammed into a brick wall. That's why the shots often
don't "look quite right."
