P3D IMAX off the screen.

Hi All,

Just got back from the weekend to see lots of debate over whether IMAX
films should be all off the screen or not.

It was only watching "L5, 1st City In Space" last week that I really got
it. The idea is to ignore the screen, and find yourself sitting *in* the
movie.

As others have pointed out, having the edge of the screen away over
*there* somewhere dimishes the problem of window violations to the point
of being negligible. That makes a fundamental difference from
conventional film where, if you're doing it right, you need most of the
action behind the screen to prevent violations. Then the director feels
they must stick things in your face to remind you it's 3D. That's pretty
naff.

On the other hand, being surrounded by the smoke and flames of the shuttle
launch is just Too Way Cool. :-)

BTW, I had no problem fusing the nearest objects despite the fact that I
still haven't sussed out cross-eyed freeviewing.
