ok, good question. Most strobes (including the Metz) will readily cover
a 35 mm lens on a standard 35 mm format (8 perforations and 36 mm wide),
so on this basis alone you should be good to go with out adapter...

But Realists and other american format cameras produce images only 5
perf wide, and so provide an extra margin of safety because of the
narrower (almost square, 24 x 23 mm) format. The diagaonal of the
format's 32ish mm, so the actual angle of view from the 35 mm lenses
isn't wide.

BTW, the Metz is a great choice for stereo work, as we need the extra
light output for small apertures and generous hyperfocus.
