P3D Oakland Camera Club meeting last night

I managed to get to the Oakland Camera Club's stereo group meeting last
night, but it was not easy. First I bargained with my evening class to
get them to agree to my leaving 15 minutes early. Then, just before I
was to leave, a marvelous class dispute broke out. I don't know how
many people would agree with me, but a class fight on just how to do a
homework problem is, to me, a sign of high morale and indicates a
serious interest in the subject. Hated to cut it short, but maybe it
will continue tomorrow.
Getting to Oakland took 95 minutes, and involved creeping at times, and
speeds of 10 or 15 mph over the speed limit at other times. I was 20
minutes late, but the projectionists kindly let me take the time to
turn in three slides for the beginner's contest. The format involves a
B contest, then an A contest, then a friendly clinic. I brought a
Nimslo-plus-Teco-closeup-lens slide of a flower, but did not have time
to look at it with my viewer. Turned out it had been taken with a gray
card as background, with my thumb showing. The judge kindly said that
the exposure was right on, and suggested masking out the thumb.
There were two BW slides shown; one was with Scala film, while mine was
a contact print using a very slow film on a BW negative.
Several people commented on our attempt to start a stereo club in a
nearby city. Wished me luck. It is agreed that if the "Silicon Valley
Stereo Photography Society" makes it, we will have two joint meetings a
year, sort of midway.
