To be just safe from the beginning, this is only my very humble
opinion. I wholeheartedly agree with George when he states that
('even') at eBay, prices are on the high side.
It's the point of view you're looking from. On S3D (I think) we
are a bunch of stereo enthousiasts. Most of us are on P3D and/or
S3D as well (not to get rich but to share information and to grow
our knowledge about stereo/3D).
When we have something to offer, we always 'think' of our fellow
'enthousiasts' when we decide on an asking price (S3D).
Let me give you an example. Recently I bought a Realist Flash
from George for an amount of money you won't believe.
Let's state that it was $X. 1/2 X was spent on cleaning, polishing,
and shrink wrapping. The other 1/2 X was for p&p (I'm quite sure
because I've sent a lot of stuff to the USA and I know the prices)
What did I get ? A Realist Flash in original box with all the papers
and instructions, and a plastic sleeve for te flash, with one side
blue, looking pristine. All in the original box
Rather complete I would think.
What did I came across on eBay ? Just a barebone Realist Flash.
No documentation. No box. No sleeve. No nothing else but the flash.
Scrathes and dents included without extra costs. 8-)
Highest bid ? $29 ! Reserve met. P&p, USA, extra ($3 or $5 ?).
Not to mention the continent. Now is the time for you all to get
your calculators !
I've been trying to obtain a Realist, Kodak Stereo and/or Revere in
'bad' condition from eBay, as well as from anybody else, to be used
for spare parts, but all attempts over the last 8 months were in vain.
And I can come up with a lot more examples. Stereo cameras in bad
condition, not or not accurate working shutters, missing pieces,
no lens cap, dents and scratches, not a case in sight for $90 - $125
or even more, on eBay, while I bought my Realist & Kodak Stereo from
people (male & female, thanks again) on plain good old S3D.
So eBay is just for the TRADE. eBay is for the greedy. eBay is for
all those who are too covetous. eBay is for speculation.
Again, this is my opinion.
So keep in touch with the Georges, Lindas and Harrys (and Alexas ! !)
of this world and you will be assured that you'll get your cameras and
other stuff at very realistic prices.
I hope I didn't go to far and haven't offended anyone, again, just
my silly opinion. Hope that I didn't step on too many toes as I
obviously did before.
Thanks for your time,
Peter
