P3D V-M viewer repairs

In the course of acquiring a small collection of V-M reels,
several "standard" Sawyers viewers (dark brown Bakelite,
no model name) were included, only one of which is really
satisfactory. The others have schmutz on the interior
surfaces of the simple lenses or the internal mask edges
are not clean. Before I drill out the rivets and split the
shells for cleaning the inside, I'd like to know what I'm
getting into.

I found some schematics of these viewers' construction on
the Net, but they lacked detail. I don't want springs flying in
all directions during disassembly, and would be grateful for
pointers or direct info about the innards and assembly
procedures, in detail. TIA.
