I don't own an S1 but I do have rangefinder cameras and it's easy to use
polarizing filters with them. Many pola filters have a mark, usually a
diamond or a dot on the front ring which rotates to vary the effect.
What's it for? Simply point this mark at the sun for maximum polarizing
effect. Strength of polarization will vary with your angle to the sun
as usual. If your particular filter(s) don't have this mark, put one
there yourself. Not quite as good as seeing the effect with an SLR, but
effective. For stereo, left and right pola filters should be exact
matches of course.

By the way, the effect will be the same with the mark 180 degrees away
from the sun.
