I tried this a few years ago. Just after the BBC (in the UK) did "poulfrict"
(spelling?) effect segments in some of their programmes as part of Children
In Need. Following their programmes two things occurred to me; firstly any
nut could do this effect with a camcorder.
Secondly (and relevantly) that if the two (sequential) images involved
differ insufficiently for the mind to be confused when in motion, then they
could be 'grabbed' and converted to pairs etc...
I have now done this with lots of things - whilst it isn't the best method
for 3d photography, it is very useful when you don't have access to the
original subject matter.
Two suggestions of good subject matter:
Historical film or film of major news events - it is possible to go back and
take 3d pictures!
Music videos - lots of good camera movement (a fellow, MUCH YOUNGER website
designer wanted some thing original to put on a spice girls web page that
she was making: from their first video - the one that's a long single shot I
was able to make five very good 3d pics)
David
(p.s. I am always interested to hear of any 3d pics of Gibraltar)
