You need a screen that retains polarization.  If you can see stereo with
your screen then it should be OK and it most probably is a "silver" screen
(not really made out of silver but with a "metallic" finish that retains
polarization.)

Yes, it is.  Most all polarized glasses from the 50s or 60s have lost
polarization long time ago.  Maybe your glasses are newer.

I guess it is.... But there are some slides that might look better in
projection than the viewer.  With experience you will learn which 
slides look good and which slides do not look good in projection.

But you also might be seeing some ghosting if the screen and/or glasses 
are not very good.  If you see like double images that might be a sign
that you need new glasses/filters/screen.
