P3D Shuttered Glasses

William Menchine asks:
"Does anyone out there have a recommendation for an affordable, high
quality system for viewing stereo on a PC?

I would like to go with a company that is not bankrupt (literally) and
makes a good editing program. My goal is to place my stereo photography
images on a web site. I would like to work with a system that uses an
Industry standard format, if such a thing even exists!

My next try was going to be VR surfer. I understand they sell an
editing
program, but I remember reading a while back in Stereo World that their
glasses were marginal."

I recommend the VRSurfer and DDS developer. Check out thier site:
http://www.vrex.com/html/dev_studio.htm

The wireless glasses and software sell for $79. All you need are
scanned images, this stuff, a web site, and a pentium with a video board
and you are on line. The output format may be choosen by you, anaglyph,
JPS, JPG, interleaved, whatever.

I believe JPS right/left is the best format to output. I can print out,
or display on my monitor, a crosseye view as 5"x10" or larger and view
it directly. Parallel pairs larger than 3"x6" don't work for me. I
loose nothing since the playback interleaves and the data is not
stripped by storing an interleaved image. DepthCharge viewing software
will play it back for shuttered glasses, red/blue, crosseye, parallel,
page flip, whatever. This is pretty universal and comes close to ideal.

I don't use the VRSurfer glasses as recieved. I remove the plastic
protective "goggle" so the image quality is great. I have even mounted
one pair of shutters on another frame. The glasses work great this way
and they are wireless.

When I have done demo stystems few people notice the plastic covers as a
problem. Those of us who shoot slides expect better, and can remove the
plastic. Maybe I will buy

someday but not now.

$99 for glasses alone, with wires? why?
I can buy two pairs of the VRex glasses for that.
I never got my Simulize glasses to work. And I don't line the "white
line code" Crystaleyes may be fine, but the software was not affordable
when I considered it.

I feel that VRex offers the best value. This is why I publish in this
format.

I encourage you to go this way yourself.

If you are already producing JPS images I would like to hear from you.
When I finally move from CD-R to stamped CDs I would like to showcase
the works of others. This has got to be the best way to share our
images with each other. Stereo imagery now has a way to rise again,
better than ever. Those of us who have shot so much for so long can now
share our stuff. It is even possible to cover our film costs, well,
almost.
