P3D Why remove Realist lens cap?

I would have been interested to know how last Christmas, when I tried to shoot
some interesting yard displays through chain link fences. I was able to
position the lenses so each could peer through adjacent squares formed by the
metal wires of the fence, but couldn't get close enough because the lens cap
was always in the way - not by much, but too much for my taste.
