P3D Server down (maybe)

Since we are immimently going to have our T1 line installed, the
structure of the net here on campus will be radically changed in
some respects. This will likely result in an outage which could
extend for several days. The onset of this will be whenever we
can get the ISP and USWest all here at the same time to do the
switchover. The major sequencing of events will be to get
our library system back online to the Univ of Montana, followed
by student web browser connections to the outside, followed by
other apps (like mailing lists). As we are very near the end of
the semester here (final exams next week), the first two are of
very high priority.

Since Calcite has been running continuously since Sept '97, I
think I will take the opportunity to rework the software/archives
there to update Linux to the current released version (much more
secure than the version Calcite is running) and re-organize the disk
partitions since we are running very full of late. I may also see
if I can change over to Listserv 6.0d from 6.0c, which supposedly
handles MIME messages much better, and allows more intelligent
handling of sub/unsub requests, etc.

Also this will provide a "cooling down" period for some of the
current problems in the list.

So if we disappear all of a sudden, have no fear - we will return.

THANKS
