P3D re: Which side is the front

In the past when using heat seal mounts, I always
mounted with the front of the slide toward the
larger opening. This allowed me to position the
chips against the smaller opening and adjust the
alignment before closing. This method ran into
trouble when the adhesive was changed from a very
dark green to light blue. In a viewer I then had
an ugly border of translucent adhesive around the
slide. What I started doing to preserve this
method of mounting was to color the border of the
mount with a black permanent marker. This looked
better, but was time consuming. The next alternative
was to mount upside-down. Left and right are reversed,
but the image is not pseudo, and infinity separation
is still valid. The finished slide is then viewed
from the side with the smaller openings, and you don't
see the annoying border.

When using Spicer mounts, I use the RBT transfer
technique, previewing the slide right side up in the
RBT, and transferring it to the small-opening side of
the Spicer mount.
