I assume your Realist is an early model without double exposure prevention..

There should be a small round hole on the top of your Realist (left-hand side), 
that is flagged red after taking a shot and reset by the act of winding on. On
some Realist this does not appear to work but its a fairly simple mechanism that
shouldn't be difficult to repair if it ain't working. The best solution is really just to get
into a routine.. for example, I always wind on immediately after taking a shot,
and cock the shutter immediately before taking the next shot.

All thing are possible... but I think this one is very improbable. :)
