P3D Re: Phantograms

right on... thats exactly what it does.. it integrates the 3D stereogram into
our reality rather than shutting our reality out while we look at the stereogram.

The fact that the illusion is now within our reality means that our periphery
vision can see all the real objects around us at the same time as the illusion
so, for example,  its possible to place ruler next to the image and actually 
measure its height etc..

Exactly !....except you cant walk around it... to see the other side... and
it doen't move or talk  :^)

Also I would think the angle of view , looking down on the image, must always 
include the sheet of paper the image is printed on for every point on the 3D 
projection... i.e. you couldn't look at a very shallow angle and have the 3D object 
against the "real life" environment.
