Actually, the angle may vary, but the viewing angle will generally match
the taking angle.

My posts from a few days ago should answer this question:
(At my gallery exhibition opening reception, re. my life size Brandi phantogram)
The phantograms were a big, big, hit at my gallery opening. I heard, as
the evening progressed, that people were being pulled in off the street
with exclamations like, "You've got to go in there and check out this
print!" The response was absolutely and overwhelmingly positive. My
exhibit was packed for a good three hours, then I had to leave and get some
dinner (It was after 9PM...). I don't know how much longer the gallery
stayed open.
(and from an earlier post... after getting the big print)
Anyway, I got the print two days ago, and it turned out GREAT. The
illusion is even better than I imagined it would be. It is a "windowless"
stereoscopic experience, about as close to virtual reality as I've seen (in
some ways much better than looking at a slide). It really makes for an
ultimate anaglyph.
...
So you see, Peter, placing the three-d image above the paper in this format
places it more convincingly in your real space. Unlike a regular anaglyph,
the three dimensional image is not separated from the rest of your reality
by the stereo window (That is to say, I perceive this window as a barrier
or threshold, separating the image from real space. The phantogram has no
such barrier.) It is a surprising and pleasant effect. People are really
startled when they first see it!
(Selling my 1/4 scale phantogram of the nude Brandi presently).
Yours,
Boris
