I'm certainly pleased with my 3D Wizard, although I was under the
impression that it had been discontinued in favour of the Trio.
As I understand the lens situation, the Wizard had glass triplets where
all the others have aspherical plastic lenses. Maybe Tony Shapps at the
Widescreen Centre could comment further.
I've never figured out whether the plastic lenses really are inferior, or
if that is just prejudice against the new. Any one seen any real test
results?
I too have been experimenting with supplimentary lenses, using an 82mm +4
diotre. One nice side effect is that the viewfinder, looking through the
lens off centre, appears to be corrected for parallax error. At least
when I made allowances for it the subjects were all at the bottom of the
print. I haven't yet decided whether the results are good enough though.
The few I've done appear to be more prone to double images in the
background (all of ten/eleven inches away that is). I'll have to try some
more to be sure of it.
One amusing point was that the prints came back with an advice sheet
saying "Subject too close."
I agree entirely about the quality of the enlargements. Those who are not
keen on lenticular prints should look at some of these 10x8s. Since the
print is so much larger relative to the lenticules the disadvantages of
these become much less significant. I'm convinced that lents would really
take off if larger prints were more affordable.
Now if only I could get some slow shutter speeds on this thing.....
