I don't think this is illegal George, but I think you are making one
unfair assumption: The seller may not know ANYTHING about the book
except that it's about _those_ cameras that keep selling on eBay. Maybe
they think someone who bought a camera might like the book. They _might_
be providing a valid service, and if the buyers and sellers don't know
about another source, then the market should drive the price.
By stepping in and "deflecting" a seller's bidders, you are potentially
hurting that seller. What if they bought the book in a local used book
store for $30 and started it at a lower price to "get business" on eBay,
then you send all their customers away, and they end up selling for only
$25? Then they have paid fees up front, and on the back end of that
transaction, losing a total of $7 or so.
Suffice it to say that I don't think I would do this, even though I
understand your ethical desire to be fair to everyone. =)
