P3D Re: Interpupillary distance

Peter Davis tells us that he had his eyes checked and his
interpupillary distance registered at 69 mm which is towards
the high side (with 63-65 mm being around average). Then he
asks:

>I wonder if this means that I have more tolerance for slightly hyper

>65mm lens spacing would be. I wonder if, in general, stereo enthusiasts

No knowledge here but some sound (I THINK) speculations... A few mm
here and there are not be expected to make a difference. Stereo
enthusiasts (I WOULD GUESS) do not have wider eye spacing than
the average public. The area where the interpupillary distance
is important is stereo viewing using viewers. We have documented
the fact that people with short interpupillary distance (shorter
than the infinity setting of the stereo pair) have hard time using
viewers with small lenses.
