I tried to post these last night, but Yahoo was having some sort of
seismic disruption. Herewith are the Scientific American citations on
anamorphic topics I mentioned.

1) "Scientific American", vol 245 no 1, July 1981, page 176+, The
Amateur Scientist department - "Anamorphic pictures: distorted views
from which distortion can be removed" by Jearl Walker

2) "Scientific American", vol232 no 1, January 1975, page 110+,
Mathematical Games department - "The curious magic of anamorphic art"
by Martin Gardner.

Both are nicely illustrated and have bibliographic references at the
end of the magazine. (Coincidentally the July '81 issue also has an
article entitled "Binocular Depth Inversion" by John I. Yellot, Jr
which discusses the brain's tendency to *override* parallax-based
depth cues in certain circumstances. Don't miss that one!)

The article by Gardner on anamorphic art has a nice cover illustration
meant to be viewed in a mirrored cylinder, if you happen to have one
about.
The one by Walker describes a number of ways to introduce distortions
when printing a normal negative. I'd love to hear thoughts from
anyone who thinks they can improve on the processes!
Neither article discusses stereoscopic applications of anamorphosis,
but it's simple, right? Whatever they do, you do *twice* - 65mm
apart! Well maybe not quite that simple. ;-) Let the list and/or me
know what you think after you read the articles.

By the way, did anyone ever get more information on Achim Bahr of
Dusseldorf? Is he known to anyone on the list? I'd sure like to know
how *he* does this stuff.

Bruce.
