Since the "experts" ;-) on the list haven't replied yet and the
doctor will be in shortly...

On the question if it's normal to have to adjust for each slide it
all depends on how they're mounted or the stereo club policies (this
is a joke from a thread a few months ago). It isn't normal to have
to re-adjust the projector for each slide. As you have stated, yes
the problem is in mounting the chips incorrectly or inconsistently.
There are two schools of thought on mounting (at least that is what
I've been taught here on P3D!). Mounting for infinity or the stereo
window. Mounting for the stereo window is easier (and I think more
common?). Some people recommend mounting gauges and others eyeball
it. Anyhow, just pick the closest points (object in picture that
appears cloesest to you) in your picture and adjust the chip till
the is as close to the stereo window without protruding. There are
exceptions to this but in general will work most of the time.

It will look okay in a viewer since you don't get any ghosting.
You'll see telltale signs of improper mounting show up on the
sides of the window having double edges. Another sign is the depth
will appear set to far behind the stereowindow or protrude it.
