Just as a matter of interest and to take some of the heat out of this
discussion  do you know how polaroid make their color polars?. Do they
simply laminate them with colour filters or do they perhaps use a sandwich
of two polars with a birefringent layer in between .With different
birefringence /thickness to produce the required colour because although
this would work I think it would be more inefficient due to light lost in
the second polar.
