I made one out of a drawer slide and a couple of tee bolts, it works
quite well and has over a foot of side to side travel and cost about $6
to make. I think someone on this list suggested it. It probably is not
as good as the manufactured ones (not as stiff) but it looked very good
in both the macros and hypers I have used it for. Make sure you get a
drawer slide with ball bearings in it.
