eGroups.com also offers this type of service. And, as a bonus, you can
change your subscription type from ack (get each message as it's posted)
to digest (a once-a-day compilation) to web-read (aka vacation mode)
through your browser. You can also read the postings via browser if you
want.
It also has moderator privs of various sorts if you want to set those as
well. It also protects your email address from "spammers" by only
allowing members of the group to see the email list (if wanted, or
nobody can view the email list) as well as replacing the last character
of the name with a "-".
Although it has ads (small sig ads on each mailing) with the "free"
service, many on the list have expressed a willingness to fund the
"non-ad" service of $4.95/month ($60.00/yr).
I've used eGroups.com to set up a mailing list for our church. Seems to
have gone over pretty well.
