DID THE FIRST STEREO REALIST HAVE HIGHER SHUTTER SPEEDS?
********************************************************
Perhaps I should be asking - did the first realist have higher "MARKED"
shutter speeds?
The Stereo Realist was announced in November 1945 just three months
after WW2. It was well advertised during 1946 and was launched onto the
US market in 1947.
One full page "watch for it - wait for it" advertisement was on page 3
of the November 1946 edition of "American Photography".
Interestingly, this advertisement had photographs of a Stereo Realist
camera with f3.5 Ilex-Paragon lenses and with 1sec to 1/200 sec shutter
speeds!
To the best of my knowledge only the 1/150 sec maximum shutter speed
reached the market until the f2.8 lens model was released a few years
later.
Was there an early Realist with f3.5 Ilex-Paragon lenses and with
shutter speeds marked as 1sec to 1/200 sec?
Is there any knowledge of this among members of our P3D list?
I have the Nov ë46 magazine and can EMAIL a scanned copy of this advert
to anyone who might want to follow this up.
The file is in jpg format and is 500k at 180 ppi and 60k at 50 ppi. The
180 ppi file will let you read some of the very small text.
My personal interest in this topic is as a writer and editor of all
things stereo for our local Sydney Stereo Camera Club Bulletin. This is
just a voluntary thing. If you havenít yet seen our bulletin, the
January 1999 issue can be downloaded from
<http://www.con-int.com.au/sscc/> and is, in my biased opinion, a good
read for all who are interested in stereography.
