P3D 3D in the Theatre
I was at a pantomine at our local theatre last night.
(I'm not sure whether a pantomine is a UK only
tradition - but for those that don't know, it normally
involves lots of audience participation and corny jokes
for the 4 to 12 year olds, double entendres, hamming it up
and outrageous costumes for the teachers / cub leaders
and plenty of leg from the leading lady to keep the fathers
happy!)
Anyway at the first interval Red/Green anaglyph glasses
were handed out to the audience and when it reach a
storm/shipwreck scene they dropped a white screen
on the stage switched on a red and a green lamp behind the screen
and the 'actors' preceded to do various silly activities behind the screen
effectively back projecting 3D shadows of actions such
as throwing things into the crowd, swinging a fishing rod into the crowd
etc.
The kids loved it (the screaming was deafening).
The 3D was quite good, the stereo window must have been at about row 5,
the objects only seemed to lose their sharpness when they were right 'in ya
face'.
(It goes without saying that I collected all the glasses from my row at the
end)
