I apsolutely love slides!!!! And for that matter in a high quallity
viewer. As always, I partially aggree with George. The biggest
problem I have found with my stereo slides is that the strong majority
of people that have viewed the images in a slide viewer have said,
"Wow! These are cool, is there anyway to make them into a print?". I
always find this a bit sad. I know that there is no better sensation
of reallity for my images then going into the slide viewer. But one
other aspect George didn't touch on was that it is not just the users
(or lack there of) of slides that will kill the slide, but the fact
that the public doesn't in there mind like slides as much as prints.
People want to be able to hang it up, and enjoy it on the wall from a
distance. At least in the "fine art" way of getting the work out
there that is how it is. I am finding that I will probably start
selling some my work not only as prints, but as {YUCK!}2d prints. I
want my work out there, and there has been an interest from a few
galleries, but none want the slides.
Now that I have purchaced 2 more working stereo cameras (from Dalia,
thanks), I will be back to having shoots with people next week. I
will still shoot some 2d images with an slr in black and white for the
people that pose for me, because that is what they want, but for the
galleries I will probably have some of my stereo pairs put onto
photoCD, and then I will manipulate them in Photoshop, and then have
them printed as single 2d imgages. If I am talented and lucky enough
to eventually make a name for myself, I will try and use that to get
people interested in the stereo versions of the work that they will
have already been familliar with.
Wish me luck.
