P3D Choosing Slide Mounts

Here's my prefered method of choosing which slide mounts to use. I cut
the roll of film and place the chips in slip-in mounts to preview. The
slip-in mounts are modified for easy removal of the chips later. ( I've
scratched many images removing from slip-ins) I prioritize each image
considering competitions, projection, viewer only, give-aways or
document and storage purposes. I use the RBT mounts for the better
images although I find them just as labor intensive as the
albions....probably because the little yellow spacer tool breaks half
way through the box of mounts.:-) ( Is there a training video on how to
use that thing?:-)) Albions are easy for me although some vertical
alignment is still necessary. I use a jewelers screwdriver to move the
chips as far to the top or bottom of the mount slots as I can. I use
Albions or Spicers when adding special gel effects.
Spicers are good ( and cheap ) for everyday shots. I use tape tabs to
secure chips and I use office file stickers to close the mounts. Spicers
are the easiest to use for physically mounting the chips, but can
require more time to achieve critical alignment. When creative cropping
is required, you cannot beat Spicers. Since slip-ins are expensive and
fuzzy and hairy....I use a small batch for preview purposes only.
I cannot tolerate the heat seals...I may use these for
give-aways.....although you can create some cool effects by steam
blasting the images! :-) Mark Dottle
