P3D a short word

I'd just like to drop a note to everyone who has sent private
e-mail and snail mail over the last 3 weeks or so - if I have not
responded, it's because I'm up to the proverbial a** in alligators.

We've had a whole series of hacker attacks to deal with (particualry
mail relay hijacking for aphrodisiac ads) PLUS my main machine
crashed just over a week ago PLUS the @*@(*!H!(* happy99 worm.

The thing which has kept me occupied (outside of the worm last night)
is that the mail software here now prohibits mail from being forwarded
thru the rocky.edu server, unless it originates or terminates at rocky.edu.

No sooner than I finally had that in place (and let me tell you it
was a #*!!@*Y to set up) that I had howels of protest from some
faculty that they wanted to be able to send and receive e-mail
via the server here, but when they were using, for example. AOL.

That, by definition, is a mail relay. Some people said they wanted
it to *look* like they were sending/receiving from the campus and
didn't want the mail headers to say otherwise (arrgh.... as if anybody
but system administrators read e-mail headers anyway). So *maybe*
I now have that set up (a double @*!#&!Y to configure). 

And now I've got several adaptek 29xxUW scsi adapters that absolutely
WILL NOT talk to some Western Digital Enterprise 4.6 GB Ultra
Wide hard disks without doing bus resets. ARRRRRGH!!!!


You don't have to be crazy to be a system administrator, but it
helps :-)
