Actually you don't need to change the filename for a Mac.  They aren't
interested in the suffix because they keep the data type, well let's just
say "elsewhere."  That means that a Mac program for cross platform data
types (jpeg, gif, y'know) tends to look into the file and read the headers
to see if it can read the file.  It's a shame most Windows programmers are
too lazy to do that.

The only other way I know to view jps files without a depthcharge
equivalent is to open the same file twice and place them side by side.
Looking at the middle pair gets you a parallel view, which I prefer 
because I can get some optical help with it.

As for Boris' question about the AOL browser, I'd guess that the PC was
set to 8 bits per pixel.  That makes only 256 colours available, and the
program has to do some Seurat-type dithering to fake the others.  Some are
better at that than others, and there's nothing you can do about it at
your end of things.  Still, at least your work won't look *worse* than
others'.  They all suffer equally.
