Just needed to vent a bit (sorry about that), and clear a few things up....
Boris Starosta writes:

first of all, thanks for offending those of us on the list who "do" know how
to use a computer, and happen to have various reasons for choosing AOL as a
provider.
>>>We looked for some kind of preference setting within the browser, and could
find none. .....AOL is so stingy with bandwidth, they apparently set up their
browser to download the jpegs only partially - thus giving their users a
definitely substandard experience<<<
AOL has a complete set of "user-preferences" including one specifically called
"web graphics" - even a "tech-head" could/should have figured that out. Also,
AOL users are not limited to using the internal browser - you can use
netscape, explorer, or any other browser of choice. I sometimes use all 3
simultaneously when i'm updating my website, just so i can compare how my
"art" will be viewed by others on various browsers.
>>>This is very upsetting to me. Here I spend a lot of effort putting high
quality images on the web.....and (AOL is) misrepresenting my work!<<<
If you want your images to be displayed in a specific manner (whereby you
dictate the way people view your work), then the WWW is obviously not the best
vehicle of choice - any "tech-head" should be well aware of the limitations of
this medium.
