****** These comments are interesting... I had no idea that this was the
barrier preventing new stereo web pages.
Any amount of research into HTML quickly reveals that it is basically by
definition a text file, and therefore can be handled as you suggest above.
If you use Notepad, you better understand the basics of HTML tags. I use a
program called HomeSite, and there are dozens of several types of programs
available for creating and working with HTML pages, including Composer in
Communicator.
Your comment #2 is inaccurate in that an FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
program is required to upload your images and HTML pages TO your website. It
has nothing to do with viewing your new material. Once it is uploaded to
your server, you can view you new web pages with your usual browser.
People, PLEASE, *don't* use embed tags with your JPS images. It prevents all
but one brand of access technology for your images, making your website
unfriendly to many of us who would like to visit and see your images. The
MUCH better solution is to notify your ISP that you intend to use JPS images
and that they need to add the mime type to their server. Otherwise the
server thinks the JPS file is text, and your visitor will get garbled text
instead of glorious stereo.
The ONLY benefit to using the embed tag is that you don't have to talk to
your ISP, but it creates major problems for many visitors and does NO
benefit for stereo to the internet in the long term. In addition, the embed
tag is problematical for many reasons having nothing to do with stereo images.
It costs NOTHING to ask your ISP to add the mime type. Once added, any of
their customers can use JPS images without a problem. It should take them
all of 10 seconds to type in the information. There is a long term benefit
for stereoscopy in general to having the JPS mime type installed and
recognized on as many ISP's as possible. You can help with your request to
the local ISP.
Here's what to tell your ISP:
1. You will be using the JPS file type on your web pages. It is a standard
JPG type image with a special extension.
2. The mime type is image/x-jps
3. Thankyou...
If any of you get questions you don't know the answer to, or any other
problem from your ISP about adding the mime type, I will be happy to
communicate with them directly about what this is and why they should be
willing to add it.
Thanks,
Larry Berlin
