Minolta does have a number of interesting 3D photography items. I am in the
process of setting up a Dimage 1500 EX twin camera rig on a slide bar. The
catching point was control of the exposures. I communicated with the Minolta
web site to get information on linking the cameras for stereo. I got back a
letter from a developer. It seems that the answer line person got a headache
just reading my question. It turned out that the person he gave the question
to had worked with Otto Walasek when he got his matched lenses from Minolta
for doing 3D glamor photography.

After a number of exchanges I have deduced that:
1) Using the Digita language I can control the aperture and shutter speed
manually - the ease of that remains to be seen. I have to download the spec
sheet to see what can be done on a 1500.
2) With a little skill with a soldering iron, I can make the two cameras MATCH
their exposure and shutter speed and fire them simultaneously.

The best feature of the 1500 is that the lenses can be separated up to 6',
only the small lenses are extended on the slide bar (avoiding nasty
weight/deflection problems) and with a bit of work, you can view the scene to
be captured in 3D real-time. There are optional "lenses." The downside is
that, like the RBT's, this is not for the financially impaired.

PS: On this "AOL is for dummies" thread, do we get to, like, face off on IQs?
engineering degrees? salaries? knowledge of embedding in JPS ? (If the
latter, which is best, knowledge or ignorance?)
