P3D 3D sound & digital 3D

The discussion of the parralells between 3D photography and stereo sound
brought to mind the discussions we have had on the stereo window and stuff I
have read in Stereo Review about the "sound stage". I love to play a clip
from the Heart album "Little Queen" where you can hear coins hitting the
pavement. In my old living room people could point to the exact spots where
the coins landed, 3D sound? Binaural claimed such things but I never have
experienced it. There are some demo recordings out there that would be easy
to try with headphones. They claim you get front to back separation with
only two channels.

The digital 3D thread gives me hope that we will see a mass produced 3D
camera yet. With apologies to RBT and the many people doing very nice twin
rigs I do not see Canon/Olympus/Nikon/Minolta ever doing a 35mm 3D camera.
The engineering needed to syncronize shutters and film advance is too
expensive to recapture on a limited production camera. 3D is a whole
different story and freeing the lens/shutter assembly from the film plane
opens all sorts of doors. One camera could do macro and hyper. Has anyone
done anything with the Sony Glasstron glasses or the Olympus glasses? Do
they allow inputs for each eye? They would seem to be naturals for 3D
viewing.
