P3D Stereo sight and sound

With all the discussion about stereo sound, maybe this is the time to
bring up an embarrassing subject. I hope to show my first stereo slide
sound program at NSA this summer. I was showing what I have done so far
with a man who is a successful director of motion picture, video and
slide sound programs for industrial clients. He was astonished to find
that I had recorded the music in monaural. His reaction was unbelief
that monaural was generally used in such presentations. He had never
seen modern stereo photography and was very excited about what he saw.
But he kept asking me how in the world those in the hobby could be
satisfied with monaural sound while watching stereo pictures. I really
had no good answer for him except to say that stereo projection had
preceded most of the developments in stereo sound for retail use. I
personally have felt the same way but have hesitated to mention it. He
even said that sound for professional programs has gone beyond simple
two speaker stereo. I am curious about how others feel about this.
