There was an additional question to this post regarding why the
viewfinder was so dark. I propose the theory that your lens is stopped
down (f11 or f22). You will probably find that the view finder will be
brighter if you open the f-stop. Of course, this then changes the depth
of field as well as other camera settings.
Some cameras have a button you can push to open the f-stop temporarily
while you focus. You then release the button and press the shutter.
Other cameras will leave the lens wide open until you take the picture
and then set the proper f-stop when you fire the camera.
Your mileage may vary and so may your camera. So, experiment with the
f-stop to see if you can brighten the viewing. And, contact Dr T for
one of his slide bars to make stereo SLR photography easier.
