The latter. I mount a subset of my slides in RBT mounts for use in Red
Button, Revere and other hand viewers. I often do in-camera dupes so I
can do both. Also, as you have mentioned, some shots just seem to work
better in projection or in a viewer. "Predestination", you might say.

I do have a couple of 2x2 viewers (Franka, Pinsharp) which I mainly use
for previewing the slides in stereo when I receive them back, but the
inferior quality of the Pinsharp's lenses and lack of illumination make
it less than satisfactory, and while the Franka's glass lenses are
better than the Pinsharp's, I find its diffuser material to be
insufficiently translucent, making for a dark image. Neither comes
close to a halogenized Revere or Red Button.
I'm considering the de Wijs viewers, but I'd like to get a look through
one before I spend that kind of money.
