P3D Film curling problem

Well, I about tore my hair out yesterday while trying to mount a roll of
slides taken on this new Elite Chrome film. I'd hung the uncut roll for a
few days to straighten it, but when I started to mount it, the chips
curled. Not along the length of the film, but across the width. This made
it very difficult to set the window properly. I only have a few RBT mounts
(unlike most on this list, I'm not fond of them. Call me old-fashioned),
but the curling away from the unpegged side made that about impossible. I
finally taped and retaped the chips by trial and error in some of my
remaining EMDE masks. (If it matters, these were 7 perf shots from my
Verascope F40). What a pain! A few of the shots I masked down to 5 perf
with some of my vanishing stock of Realist masks, that was a snap, as the
channels held the film flat. Sadly, the tabs on the 7 perf EMDE masks were
not enough to hold the chips flat.
The only thing I can think of is that the heat from my lightbox (a Rochwite
mounting box) was too much for this stock and curled the chips. This was my
first roll of Elite Chrome, I can't say I'm that impressed with the color
and contrast anyway.
Any comments? Any suggestions for dealing with this?
