The size demonstration was more about the fact that the image area of
a MF frame is larger than the 2x2 mount.
After having viewed a few full frame pairs in my Saturn MF viewer, I
realize that the magnification of a MF viewer is not sufficient for
2x2x2. In fact I've been thinking about building a 2x2x2 viewer along
the lines of the Saturn viewer. I was trying the 2x2x2 pairs in the
Saturn in the hopes of not having to build another viewer.
While the angle of view offered by the size of the chips when viewed
in the appropriate viewer won't effect the immersive experience that
much I feel that the much greater level of detail available in a MF
pair does greatly enhance the experience of viewing a stereo pair. I
have a shot of the Empire State Building from Herald Square that I
have taken with both a Yashicamat 124G and a Pentax ME Super. They
both work well as far as depth goes (they are shot hyper), but the MF
pair has much more detail. I can see the texture on the bricks of the
foreground buildings in the MF pair. I can't see that level of detail
in the 35mm pair.
