What does the digest format have to do with a virus?

In fact, it's better to use the digest format if you're worried about attachments, because attachments can't be transmitted in the digest.  They'll be reduced to a big block of garbage characters, in the midst of everybody else's messages.

This mailing list, by the way, is blessedly free of this abuse.  I don't remember the last time someone littered our list with an attachment or a MIME-encoded message.  I'm on another mailing list that is just rife with garbage and re-postings of previous messages in replies.

Obviously, this list's denizens are a cut above the others.
