Interesting that you seem to fault the film for this.  Although
I haven't seen it myself, from your description, I'd say
that it's exactly what 3D films *should* be.  It should just
happen to have depth like it should just happen to have color
and happen to have sound -- with focus on the plot and character
development (etc).  Having things stuck out at the audience drives
me crazy if done purely for 3D-effect's sake.
