The thing to watch for in "Dial 'M' for Murder is the close-up of the
telephone dial, not objects jumping out of the frame. It is, I believe,
the only close-up in the early 3-D films. Since the distance between
the right and left lens could not be changed, Hitch had a giant dial
built and the dialing scene was shot from several feet away.

I did find that the 3-D version intensified the claustrophobic sense of
the film, made it more apparent that one was watching the film version
of a play. That made the film more intense for me, but since people
object to some films of David Mamet's plays as "too claustrophobic," it
must bother some people.
