In a manner of speaking.  When that list was started, it was
to "get rid of" some threads that some thought went on
too long and bored them -- even though such long computer
related threads were fairly rare (despite being equivalent
digital analogs to some film-apparatus based discussions).

I think it possible "proof" that the creation of splinter groups
(except for the for-sale group) may have been over-reaction
quick fixes to short-term needs rather than the identification 
of long-term trends to be addressed.
