You have to see the hills of Tuscany yourself to know how blue
they are in the distance, and how bright yellow and red are
close to you.

I would suggest to stress more that the perception of the absolute
distance from the observer, called egocentric distance by
psychophysiologists, is quite different from relative distance.
Only the latter is sensed by stereopsis.

Speaking on quotation, I'm probably a little over doing it, but I like
quotations with sources which I can find back, also on this mailing
list (it is nice when you search the archives).
Is this the book by Irvin Rock, Paperback Reprint edition (August 1995)
