P3D Re: Mailing lists

My apologies if this appears twice -- one copy has been AWOL in the ether
for a while now.

I haven't caught the whole discussion here, for reasons that will become
apparent a little later, but it seems that there is a push to re-absorb
the "fringe" lists into p-3d.  Dan is right -- the other lists were
created because p-3d members whined about threads of less-than-general
interest. (Remember, just recently, all the whining about whether Bruce
Springsteen's fabulous [IMO] phantogram posts belonged on p-3d?) This
division is fine by me, because I have a high interest in tech topics,
fair interest in sell topics, zero interest in digital topics, and very
little interest in most p-3d traffic (I read, on average, two p-3d posts
per week -- usually, posts that probably "ought" to have been on t-3d,
at least arguably, like Bruce's.  I'd unsubscribe if I were confident
that I wouldn't miss the occasional gem.).

Note that there have been several periods in the last year or so when
t-3d traffic has been much higher than p-3d traffic (times when p-3d
traffic was unusually low and t-3d traffic was unusually high).
Presumably, this would have distressed the general-interest faction
of p-3d.

One supposes that re-merging the lists would not temper the whining, so
the primary effect would be to discourage threads about hard-core tech
topics, digital, etc.  Is this what people want?
