P3D 3-D Movies subtle or attack

Should 3D movies be subtle, attack the camera, or somewhere in between?
This past NFL season I watched a few games using Pulfrich glasses. I
would consider this a moderate to mild 3D effect and nothing comes
through the window. The moments that offered the best 3D effects were
the moments that I could not recall what the announcers said, or who was
called for a penalty etc. The greater the 3D effect, the lessened
capacity to process all available information. ( or is it a personal
problem:-))
If I were a film-maker, it seems to me that I would minimize the 3D
effect during critical dialog and important information key to the
story.........and attack the camera during action sequences or
transitional scenes where the footage is not key to the plot. For
example: the 3D effect would be strong as the man enters the subway and
boards the train.......and the effect becomes subtle as the man engages
in a conversation with a passenger on the train. Does anyone agree with
this approach?
