As a non-fan of the musical genre in general (but avid fan of 3d Kate),
I'd have to disagree that the reason is entirely the script.  While the
yo-yo scene among others is gratuitous gimmickry (not sure if "too darn
hot" fits this category :) ), there are several scenes, such as the ending
play-within-a-play, that exploit depth in a way that no other 3D film
I've seen ever has.  That's why I think it's the best of the 1950s
films.  The Cole Porter stuff is filler (good filler, I admit), as far as
I'm concerned.
